Zuken E3.series scripting

E3.series scripts that catch the mistakes before they reach the shop floor

Python scripts that run inside Zuken E3.series and work on the live project through its COM interface, checking, listing and updating so your designers don't have to do it by hand. Every script is written bespoke for your company; the examples below were built for other customers. Every one of these is in daily use in wire harness manufacturing. Safe Project Update & BOM Check

Updates every component in an E3.series project safely. It takes a bill of materials before and after, swaps obsolete parts for their replacements, checks project settings against a config file, and locks revision release until someone has reviewed and signed off any BOM differences.

Cut List Generator

Extends the standard cut-list script: every cut list in a project in one run, separate lists per machine, strip lengths and comments per wire, sorting by wire code, overlap warnings, wire and page totals, plus automated tests so it can keep improving safely.

Drawing Validation Checks

A set of small checks that each test one thing in a drawing — obsolete parts, unconnected cores, wire codes that don't match the database — run on their own or all together, with every result written to a log. New checks slot in as they're needed.

Required Test Programs Check

Works out which parts of a drawing need a test program, based on whether they have enough valid test points, then checks the test program folder for one at the current revision. Problems are flagged with a hint and a link that jumps straight to the device.

Self-Updating Add-on Toolbar

Rebuilds the E3.series add-on menu every time it opens, so new and updated scripts reach every user's machine without anyone installing anything. Order, grouping, icons, shortcuts and who can see what live in a settings file anyone can edit.

VBScript is being retired

Zuken E3.series VBScript to Python conversion

Microsoft is removing VBScript from Windows, and Zuken now names Python as the preferred scripting language for E3.series. If your add-ons and scripts are written in VBScript, I can convert them to Python and test each one against the original, so nothing changes for your designers. The step-by-step guide to converting E3.series VBScript to Python covers the dates and what changes in the code.

What an E3.series script can take off your hands

Have a job in E3.series someone does by hand every week?

It can probably be scripted. Tell me what it is and I'll say how I would approach it.
